Alton Nail, of Holly Pond, Alabama, passed away on Saturday morning, June 13th, 2026, at the age of 86. Mr. Nail was born to the late J.P. and Lizzie Ruth Tidwell Nail in Cullman County, Alabama, on July 12, 1939.

Alton worked for the Civil Service as a sheet metal mechanic for many years. He could fix anything put before him and he enjoyed using his skills to restore old tractors and cars. Mr. Nail was a reserved man who found joy in traveling and being on the lake in his boat. While he sometimes seemed like he was grouchy, his love for his family was never questioned. Alton cherished his family and any time spent with them made him happy.

Those proceeding Mr. Nail in death includes his parents; grandson, Aaron Nail; brothers, Bill Nail, Howard Nail; and sister, Rosella Hill.

Those left to cherish Alton’s memory includes his children, Rex Nail (Sandra Hollingsworth), and Cynthia “Cindy” Gibbs; grandchildren, April Drake (Chris), Angie Milam (Joshua), Allen Nail, Adam Gibbs, Matt Gibbs, Jacob Gibbs (Whitney); a host of great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline McGriff; and dearest friend and mother of his children, Betty Nail.

The Nail family will honor Alton’s life in private family services with Shane Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Pond Cemetery where Gary Gibbs, Boston Gibbs, Matt Gibbs, Allen Nail, Barney Nail, James Arnold, and Jacob Gibbs will serve as pallbearers.

The Nail family would like to extend their appreciation to the Enhabit Hospice staff for the exceptional care and compassion shown to their family.
