Cynthia Kaye Rainey, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away on September 20, 2025, at the age of 59. Ms. Rainey was born on April 26, 1966, in Jefferson County, Alabama, to the late William Robert Shackelford, Sr. and the late Eula B. Ratliff Shackelford.

Cynthia was of the Baptist faith. Known by all as a sweet and caring person, Cynthia‘s love for people was seen in the many ways she helped others and in the way she treated people. She was a hard worker who spent eleven years collecting eggs on the Jon and Sheree Benefield farm.

Ms. Rainey enjoyed quilting and sewing, and she loved jewelry. In her free time, Cynthia took pleasure in a day fishing, especially on Lake Guntersville, but her greatest joy was her family. Ms. Rainey was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and any time spent with them made her day.

Ms. Rainey is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gerald Shackelford; and her sister, Pamela Marie Stancil.

Those left to cherish Cynthia’s memory include her husband, James Terry Rainey; sons, Bobby Wayne Thomas, Matthew Dalane Thomas (Karissa); Jeremy Ray Thomas (Jamie Lynn); brothers, Ronny Lee Shackleford, William Robert Shackelford, Jr. (Kaye); sisters, Carole Marie Catlett (Ricky), Debra Faye Mitchell (Ricky Lynn Mitchell); grandchildren, Noah Ray Thomas, Colton Brian Thomas, James Allan Stanton, Jr.; and a host of family and friends.

Cynthia’s memory will be remembered in a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of New Hope #2 Baptist Church. All those who knew and loved Ms. Rainey are invited to join the family as they celebrate her life.
