Darrell Roy Gilley

Darrell Roy Gilley, 74, of Holly Pond, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2022. Darrell was born July 17, 1947, to William Roy and Mavis Wyvone Screws Gilley.

After retiring as a boilermaker, Darrell began his second career as an owner/operator and drove millions of miles with his little dog Mr. Tucker at his side. Mr. Tucker passed away after seventeen years and Darrell then fell in love with a little rescue named Lucy. When Darrell was home, he loved to fish, and he liked to garden as well. Mr. Gilley enjoyed visiting with his friends at a local café where they would talk and enjoy their friendship for hours. Mr. Gilley was a Freemason. Darrell was a loving father to his three children, as well as an adoring grandfather. His love for his family was evident, as is their love for their him. He will be missed.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sandra Kay Guthrie Gilley.

Mr. Gilley is survived by his children, Terrie Budweg, Joie and Thomas Moore, Jason and Carla Gilley; grandchildren, Jacob Gilley, Joshua Gilley, Jayden Moore; great-granddaughter, Ivory Gilley; brother, Dale Gilley; sisters, Sandra Collier and Carol Kelsoe; a host of nieces and nephews; and his Lucy.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Sean Jackson of Comfort Care Hospice for his exemplary care of Mr. Gilley. They are also grateful for Darrell’s neighbor and friend, Shelia Jackson, who was their angel during Darrell’s final days.

Graveside services for Darrell will be 10 a.m., Sunday morning, June 5, 2022, at Brooklyn Cemetery, with Jeremy Collier officiating. Jacob Gilley, Joshua Gilley, Jayden Moore, Nick Kelsoe, and Seth Collier will serve as pallbearers.
