Dell Alden Howse, of Baileyton, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday morning, September 2, 2026, at the age of 87. Mr. Howse was born on November 22, 1938, to the late Robert Victor and Maggie Della Wright Howse.
After graduating Fairview High School, Mr. Howse served our nation honorable for four years as a sailor in the United States Navy. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Cullman, Alabama.
Mr. Howse had a love for nature and the outdoors, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Dell was a skilled artisan and his carving, knife making, and painting skills were exceptional. Mr. Howse was reserved in sharing his talent with others, but his work was outstanding. Dell was also an avid Alabama football fan, and he enjoyed cheering on his beloved Tide.
Mr. Howse is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dell Allen Howse, known to most as “Bo”; siblings and their spouses, Victor and Mildred Howse, Pud and Clara Howse, Buck and Catherine Howse, Zoe and Marzell Howse, Lucille and Gretch Johnson, and Roberta and Pat Yeager.
Those left to cherish the many memories of Mr. Howse include his beloved wife of almost sixty-four years, Sheila Driscoll Howse; daughter, Maggie Howse Thrower and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Megan Smith and husband, Wade, Jenny Nicholason and husband, Josh; great-grandchildren, Moses Smith, Sunni Jo Smith; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Howse; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to join the Howse family for a time of visitation on Sunday afternoon, September 6, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Services will follow, beginning at 2:30 p.m. All services will be held in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Howse will be laid to rest in New Hope #2 Cemetery.
The Howse family would like to extend their appreciation to the Gentiva Hospice family with special gratitude to nurse Rebecca. The kindness and compassion shown to their family will not be forgotten.
