Dixie Nell Cheatham Hays, 84, of Cullman, Alabama was born on February 23, 1941, in Morgan County, Alabama, to the late Lester Cheatham and Vernice Miller Cheatham. Ms. Hays passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Ms. Hays was a wonderful wife of sixty years to her husband and a wonderful mother to her two daughters. She loved her family unconditionally.
Dixie worked at King Edward until it closed, and later at the VF Corporation Lee Distribution Center where she retired. She was a person who put other people’s needs before her own, especially those dealing with sickness. Dixie was a good neighbor who considered her neighbors friends, and she loved her church family. She loved her flowers, enjoyed working in the yard, and growing vegetables in the garden with her husband.
Ms. Hays is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Hays; grandson, Austin Robertson; brothers, Max Cheatham, Clyde Cheatham, Joe Neil Cheatham, Glenn Cheatham; and sisters, Marjorie Poole, and Lila Edwards.
Those surviving Ms. Hays include her children, Tammy Hopper (Dean Sticher), Angela Robertson; grandson, D.J. Robertson (Lakelee); great-grandsons, Kallyn, Banks, and Baylor Robertson; sister, Sue Easterling; and brother, Lynn Cheatham.
The Hays family will receive guests on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow visitation, beginning at 2:00 p.m., with Bro. Randy Hays and Bro. Wendell Peterson officiating. Ms. Hays will be laid to rest in Duck River Cemetery where Alan Edwards, Mike Cheatham, Scott Poole, Brian Cheatham, Mark Cheatham, and Tony Cheatham will serve as pallbearers, with D.J. Robertson and Dean Sticher serving as honorary pallbearers.
