James Joshua Moon, of Holly Pond, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, September 21, 2026, at the age of 48. Josh was born in Gadsden, Alabama, on October 15, 1977, to James Clellon Moon and the late Melanie Jacobs.

As a longtime member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Mechanized Cavalry and Commander of Camp Gunther (Camp 444), Josh was dedicated to the preservation of Confederate history and to honoring those who helped to shape our nation. His passion for the South, and for freedom, was evident in his contribution to the preservation of local history.

Mr. Moon is preceded in death by his mother, Melanie Jacobs, and his grandparents, Arlin and Inez Moon, and Dugar and Mattie Jacobs.

Those left to cherish the many memories made with Josh include his father, James Clellon Moon; cousins, Tammy, Tina, Matt, and Julie; friends who where family at heart, Bradley Walker, David Gaddy, Matt Smith, Andy McGinnis, Judd McGinnis, and Robin Madaris; and his beloved dogs, Paul, Ebell, Puss Knuckles, Clarence, White, April, Helga, and Weenie.

Josh will be laid to rest on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 12 noon, in Strawpen Cemetery, also known as Nesmith Cemetery, (Brooksville, Alabama) where Brad Walker, Matt McGriff, Judd McGinnis, Matt Smith, Michael Thorton, Wayne Green, and David Gaddy will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are welcome to attend graveside services where Dink Lambert will officiate.
