James Loyd Smith

James Loyd Smith, of Holly Pond, Alabama, passed away on May 31, 2022. Mr. Smith was 87 years old. He was born in Cullman County, Alabama, on January 7, 1935, to Jesse James and Dora Mae Ramsey Smith.

Loyd loved to work. A mechanic by trade, Mr. Smith enjoyed working on cars even after his retirement. Loyd played an important role in the lives of his daughter and grandchildren. His love for them was evident and he will be missed greatly by them all.

Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Faye Marie Hudgins Smith; brother, Guy Smith; and sister, Dorothy Higginbotham.

Loyd is survived by his daughter, Juritta and Kerry Neal; grandchildren, Brett and Sara Neal; Melindy and Chris Ham, Jennifer and Chris Jones; great-grandchildren, Cody Jones, Maddi Ham, Kalli Ham, Jaylee Jones, Boone Neal, Case Neal, Meier Neal, Merritt Neal; and a brother, John Ray Smith, Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith are 11 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022, in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, Bro. Phillip Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Baileyton Cemetery where Brett Neal, Chris Ham, Chris Jones, Cody Jones, Jackie Smith, Steve Barnes, Stewart Smith, and Rick Smith will serve as pallbearers. Friends are invited to visit with the family an hour before service time, from 10 a.m., until 11 a.m.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hanceville Nursing Home, as well as the staff of Comfort Care Hospice. The care given to Mr. Smith was exceptional.
