Josephine Runell Thomas, known to most as Nell, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the age of 81. Nell was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on November 26, 1944.

Ms. Nell worked in retail for many years. She loved flowers and was an avid Alabama fan.

Those preceding Ms. Thomas in death include her husband, James Felton Thomas; mother, Dovie Burgett; daughter, Judy Lynn Kritner; brothers, Drennan Burgett, Eugene Burgett, Thurston Burgett, Wayne Burgett; and sister, Vivian Burgett.

She is survived by her son, Robert Thomas; granddaughters, Tatum Thomas, Trudy Ritchie; great-grandchildren, Brantley Lee, Brayden Lee, Rylan Ritchie, Jace Ritchie; brother-in-law, Ray Thomas and wife Catherine; three nephews and a niece.

Graveside services for Ms. Thomas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Fairview West Cemetery.
