Mary Joyce Burrow, affectionately known as Joy to her family, passed away on August 17, 2026, at the age of 70. Joyce was born on August 14, 1956, and had just celebrated her 70th birthday.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Tolbert Thomas and Agnes Arrington Burrow, and her brother, Ray Burrow.

Those left to cherish the many memories made with Joy include her brother, Michael Burrow (Dana); nephews, Douglas Ryan Burrow (Mallory), Casey Burrow, David Burrow (Sarah); great-nieces and nephews, Alex Burrow, Jaxson Burrow, Mason Burrow, Primrose Moore, Madison Burrow, Camillia Burrow; best friend and sister at heart, Mary Ezell; and godson, James Ezell.

Joyce was a member of Siluria Baptist Church where she worshipped her Savior alongside her family and friends. Her faith was very important to her, and she lived her life in a way that allowed others to see the Father reflected in her.

For over thirty years Ms. Joyce was a schoolteacher, sharing her knowledge with thousands of 1st and 2nd graders, in both Nevada and in Avondale, Alabama. She was well loved among her students, and she devoted herself to teaching both education and life skills that would be used by them all for a lifetime.

While Joyce never had children of her own, her nieces and nephews adored her, and she was the favorite aunt who spoiled them all. She loved them as if they were her own children and she made certain they were cared for in ways only an adoring aunt would think of.

Joyce will be missed by many, including many friends, her brothers and sisters in Christ, and her family who loved her very much.

Graveside services for Joy will be held at Zion Grove Cemetery, 1001 County Road 1742, Holly Pond, Alabama, 35083, on Friday, September 4, 2026, beginning at 12 noon. Alex Burrow, Jackson Burrow, and Mike Brooks will officiate.
