Peggy Sue Holcombe Summerford, of Arab, Alabama, entered into the presence of our Lord on Thursday afternoon, August 14, 2025, at the age of 87. Ms. Summerford was born in Cullman County, Alabama, to William Columbus and Susie Mae Gilley Holcombe on April 26, 1938.
A faithful child of God, Peggy worked alongside her late husband, Paul, as a devoted pastor’s wife. She remained a member of Hillsborough United Methodist Church where she and Mr. Summerford last served.
Peggy was a selfless person who had little time for her own hobbies and interest as she was too busy sacrificing of herself for the needs of others. She was a generous and strong lady who only learned later in life that she had artistic talents, which led her to cross-stitch and paint beautiful works of art. And when she had a free minute, Peggy also enjoyed fishing.
As Peggy’s life here on earth has ended, she can rest assured her love for her family has been felt. As an adoring and devoted mother to three children, and Grandmaw Peggy to six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Peggy’s life will certainly be treasured by her loved ones for generations to come. As quoted by her children, “Her children rise up and call her blessed.” Proverbs 31:28
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Reverand Arthur Paul Summerford; and nine siblings.
Those left to cherish the memory of Peggy includes her children, Stephanie Nelson (Tim), James Timothy Copeland (Melanie), Jeffery Paul Summerford (Jaime); grandchildren, Jason Cravens (Jacyln), Jeremy Cravens (Stephanie), Jennifer Cravens, Rebecca Laney (Aaron), Jaxen Summerford, Jenna Summerford; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Laney, Norah Laney, Charlotte Laney; sisters, Ann Hart (Doug), Joanie Holcombe; and a host of nieces and nephews, as well as many extended family members.
Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation, in the chapel of Holly Pond Funeral Home, on Sunday afternoon, August 17, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until funeral services begin at 2:00 p.m. Don McPherson will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery where Peggy will be laid to rest alongside her husband.
Holly Pond Funeral Home is honored to serve the Summerford family.
