Sylvia Rae Batemon

Sylvia Rae (Brooks) Batemon, 87, of Holly Pond, passed away on July 7, 2021. She was born September 13, 1933, in Marshall County, to James Morgan and Amanda Shedd Brooks.

Ms. Sylvia was a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed attending worship with her friends and neighbors. She enjoyed tending her flowers and mowing her own yard. Sylvia had a green thumb, and her garden was always plentiful. She loved to share her vegetables with her friends and neighbors. Sylvia had a servant’s heart, and she was always doing for others in any way she could. She spoiled not only her own family, but anyone she knew and loved. Ms. Sylvia’s greatest joy was her family and any time she could spend with them made her happy. She will be missed greatly by all who had the honor to know her.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents James Morgan and Amanda Shedd Brooks; her husband, John David Batemon; her brothers and sisters, James Brooks, Arley Dease, Velle White, Lennie White, Rose Marks, Jewel Sullivan, and Shirley Hayes.

She is survived by her children, David and Harriet Batemon, Phillip Batemon, Michael and Anita Batemon, Gayla and Larry Narrell; grandchildren, Haley and Jeremy Nix, Amanda and Jeremy Clark, Greg and Paige Narrell, Jamie and Jeff Jones; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Funeral services for Ms. Sylvia will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021, in the chapel of Holly Pond Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery where Ms. Batemon will be laid to rest along side her husband. The family will receive guests Friday evening, July 9, 2021, at the funeral home, from 6 p.m., until 8 p.m.
